Trompete, Schlagzeug, zwei Kontrab\u00e4sse, eine elektronisch verst\u00e4rkte Zither: In dieser exzentrisch besetzten Band k\u00f6nnte eigentlich jeder Leader sein, Christoph Dienz, der seiner Zither verwegen progressive Kl\u00e4nge abtrotzt, die Bassisten, die h\u00f6llisch groovten und himmlisch schwelgten, Drummer Herbert Pirker, bei dem die F\u00e4den zusammenlaufen\u2026
\nTats\u00e4chlich Leader der XY-Band ist Lorenz Raab, 1975 in Linz geboren, Solotrompeter in der Volksoper, damit finanziell unabh\u00e4ngig vom Jazz. Seine geistige Unabh\u00e4ngigkeit hat er bereits in Bands wie Forms of Plasticity oder Bleu bewiesen. Von Bleu erscheint im J\u00e4nner das sehr lyrische Album \u201eStrong Relation\u201c. Die XY-Band besticht indes durch die Ungezwungenheit, mit der sie in gef\u00e4hrlich klingende Soundwelten abtaucht, in denen sanfte Texturen in k\u00f6chelnde Grooves \u00fcbergehen, letztlich fast nervenzersetzend werden. Es liegt am H\u00f6rer, ob er lieber die Elemente des Cool, der Fusion, des Funk oder gar eines akustischen Drum\u2019n\u2019Bass erlauschen will. Die luftigen St\u00fccke der XY-Band sind ohne Substanzverlust vieldeutig. Diese Eigenschaft schreibt man sonst nur Trompetenjazz mit der Signatur der Allergr\u00f6\u00dften zu: Lee Morgan, Donald Byrd, Miles Davis.
\nRaab dr\u00fcckte sich an den B\u00fchnenrand, gab seinen Kollegen viel Spielraum. Wenn er sein Horn an die Lippen nahm, dann koste er das Mundst\u00fcck, schien manchmal die T\u00f6ne eher aus der Trompete zu saugen, als in sie zu blasen. So taumelte dieses famose Ensemble durch Fiebertraum und Ekstase. sam<\/p>\n

A trumpet, drums, two double basses, an electric zither: in this eccentric line-up any of the band members could be the leader: Christoph Dienz, who squeezes boldly progressive sounds out of his zither, the bass players, who had a hellish groove and a heavenly harmony, and drummer Herbert Pirker, who is at the central point of it all\u2026<\/p>\n

In fact the leader of the XY-band is Lorenz Raab, born 1975 in Linz, Upper Austria, solo trumpet player of the Volksoper Vienna, hence financially not relying on his Jazz career. His intellectual independence he already proved in bands such as \u201cForms of Plasticity\u201d or \u201cBleu\u201d. Bleu will publish a very lyrical album \u201cStrong Relation\u201d this January. The XY-band, however, impresses through the ease, it dives into dangerous worlds of sound, where soft textures change to boiling grooves and almost become nerve-wrecking in the end.
\nIt is up to the listeners whether they prefer to detect elements of cool jazz, fusion, funk or even acoustic drum\u2019n\u2019base in it. The airy pieces of the XY-band are ambiguous without losing substance. This is a feature usually attributed to the trumpet-jazz of the great masters: Lee Morgan, Donaly Byrd, Miles Davis.
\nRaab kept to the side of the stage, gave room to his colleagues. When he put the horn to his lips he tasted the mouth-piece, seemed to suck the notes out of the instrument rather than blowing it.
